You seem pretty empty for a girl that looks happy
A conversation with yourself that everyone should have
When there is a problem, I feel the need to do something immediately.
My ego makes me want to act quickly because it makes me feel like I have control over my life.
Instead of sitting in silence to listen to my thoughts, I have to fix the problem as quickly as possible. Staying busy makes me feel safe but empty inside.
I want to keep moving forward, keep working, find solutions, try harder. Many of us feel like this.
We are always busy and still don’t feel like we are going in the right direction, which leads us to feeling empty. We are empty inside because we are not living our passions, our callings, our purpose.
The thought of being truly safe comes when we start to listen to ourselves and our deepest thoughts.
Life does not require us always to stay busy or put in so much effort that we get burned out; it wants us to pause and take a break.
That’s when we can be calm and take time before we make the next decision.
Not living our purpose leads to chronic fatigue, sadness, and gradually feeling like life is too overwhelming.
I noticed when I am going towards the right path in my life, positive energy follows; everything is so easy, and nothing feels forced.
However, when I am going towards the wrong path in life, nothing seems to go right; I have low tolerance for communicating with people, I don’t want to get out of bed, and I have no energy.
Imagine having a plant you leave inside the house; you never water it, and it never gets any sunlight.
The plant experiences darkness and neglect and eventually dies. Our souls need us to water (love) it every day.
Our soul needs sunlight (meditation, yoga, or prayer). Life forces us to press on the brakes (stop) in the direction we are going.
Ask yourself: is a higher power trying to tell me that the direction that I am going is not meant for me or no longer serves me? For me, that’s god.
For you, it can be something or someone else. Should I stop forcing it? For me, that’s friendships and careers.
I would always find myself forcing friendships when clearly we had different views, no similarities, and those girls were honestly, quite frankly, mean.
I had so many issues in those friendships. I had to ask myself, is it supposed to be this hard to be friends with someone or get along with them? Ultimately, I cut all ties with those friendships, and my mental health has been so much better.
I was forcing a career in sports management in my early 20s. I could not find an internship in that industry; again, I asked myself whether it was supposed to be this hard.
I decided to pivot careers and go into psychiatry, and my mental health has been so much better.
This season, I chose my deepest desires, purpose, and calling. Moving forward, I choose to put myself first, and I suggest you do the same.
Your mental and physical health depends on it.
Wishing you all the best. Your friend Talie
